Q & A
| Q: | How can I find out what version of DocuGuard Reader I am running? Where do I find the registration code that my vendor needs? |
| A: | Version, Registration ID, and KeyCode may be found by running the DocuGuard Reader alone by double-clicking on C:\Program Files\DocuGuard\DGR.EXE (if intstalled in the default folder). |
| Q: | What is the KeyCode for? |
| A: | In the event your subscription lapses or your workstation is unauthorized for some other reason and you are unable ot open a file secured by DocuGuard, your vendor can use the KeyCode to generate an override code to unlock the file. Override codes are specific to the machine and only work for the day they are issued. Typically, you will see your vendors contact information on the screen that includes the KeyCode. The exception to this is the registration information screen. |
| Q: | We are being asked to supply our Microsoft Windows installation licensing keys from each computer requiring access. Where and how is this information being stored on your systems? |
| A: | Product ID's are entered in the DocuGuard Manager application in tandem with the workstation host name to create a unique signature for the individual machine. Data is stored in a proprietary binary file format on the application hard drive. At this time, the binary file store is not encrypted; however, no data traverses the internet unsecured. Update: DocuGuard Reader version 1.10 and higher no longer uses the OEM Product ID to authorize a workstation. If you are one of the few that supplied your OEM codes and would like to change to the new method, please contact your vendor. |
| Q: | Will this information be used for ongoing authentication and verification checks? |
| A: | The information is used to validate the workstation for opening document(s) to which it is assigned. The reader program validates the machine everytime a document is opened. |
| Q: | What measures are being taken to safeguard against this information falling into the wrong hands? |
| A: | Any and all sensitive data in the public domain is secured by modulating encryption. Application data stores (i.e. DG Manager data files) are the responsibility of the client to secure at present. Future versions of the DG Manager will have the optional ability to store the local database files in an encrypted format as well. |
